Thanks, guys. Haven't watched the Daily News video yet, Arun, but I've heard it turned out well.

And DK, thanks for all the kind things you've said here and on MHIA. It's been noticed by me, and I'm sincerely grateful for your thoughtfulness.

And hey, if you miss my sweet voice, check out KABC radio on Monday morning, Tiffanie and I will be on the show around 7 a.m. PT., right before the CBS Early Show (unless they cancel, of course--we could be old news by Monday!)

KSL-TV in Salt Lake City is an NBC affiliate. Has been since 1995. They were great to us NBC folks during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Infamous in some parts by not running Saturday Night Live. The station is owned by the Church of the Latter-day Saints, aka the Mormons.
KSL-AM radio was a CBS Radio affiliate for many years. It's now with ABC.
KSL's properties are different web animals, owing to their dominance in the market and local culture.

The elephant in the living room--which everyone seems to dance around, because most people in media are Liberals--is that this administration is demonizing the private sector. This is the same 'private sector' that fueled the advertising you used to get (but now aren't). A healthy economy gives people discretionary income to spend on things like cruises, plane trips, boats, TVs, and whatnot. Seen much advertising for any of these categories lately? If people don't have discretionary income, whole categories of advertising dry up and people in media cry about it. The funny paradox is that media people love to cheer-lead Obama and demonize the 'evil' private sector...until they realize they're the baby getting thrown out with the bathwater.

John, you're right; it's definitely not just the news business. Believe me, what I wrote wasn't some knee-jerk reaction. I've been having this depressing conversation with news colleagues for several years, so I've felt this way for a while. I just didn't have the courage to make a change and venture out like I'm doing now. The news industry is the only one I've worked in, but I'm sure the climate is similar across the board.
